About us - FAQ

Green Light FAQ Section;

Q:  What is the difference in light between the single LED and the Multi LED?

A:  The single LED is a single super white LED.  We consider these to be accent lights.  More for identifying the location of piers and water structures.  The multi LED utilizes 5 LED lights, also super white.  These lights are best for illumination of the actual pier or dock structure.

Q:  What material are your piling caps made from?

A:  Green Light piling caps are molded from a custom compounded polypropylene plastic with a UV stabilizer added to resist fading from the suns rays.  We prefer to use a compounded in color as opposed to color additives.  What does this mean?  Color additives are exactly as they sound, you take raw uncolored natural resin and add small specs of color utilizing the machines mixing ability to provide a color.  Green Light feels this results in color streaking after only a few months in the sun and color miss-match from lot to lot.  What Green light does is to purchase already compounded in color resin.  When you look at our raw material pellet the tan is tan, the grey looks grey.  This is more expensive but provides a better product, ensures no streaking of the cap and perfect color consistency from lot to lot.

Q: I thought most caps are molded from polyethylene or PVC?

A:  Most are, however polyethylene is more brittle then polypropylene and tends to crack when installing using nails without pre-drilling.  PVC is a known carcinogen when processing.  We value the health of our operators and workers and therefore we do not mold PVC products.

Q: How much sun does the light need to charge?

A:  Single and multi LED lights need only 2-3 hours of sun to provide 8 hours of illumination.

Q: I own my own marina.  Or I am a composite dock manufacturer.  Can I get your caps in a custom color?
A: Absolutely, there is a minimum order quantity and we will need either a color number (pantone, etc) or a sample of the color you wish to match.  There is a small set-up charge for this and adds an additional lead time of 2-3 weeks while you resin is being custom mixed..
